Since 2011
HEART AND DAGGER SOUTHERN LTD began because a job list kept growing and nobody wanted it. The idea was plain: a house should hold together through ordinary life, and the people looking after it should be people you recognise. That has not changed, even as the work now spans the whole country.
How it started
In 2011 the work was small and unglamorous. A rattling cabinet hinge. A kitchen tap that dripped. A ficus that needed repotting. A boiler that somebody else had given up on. Clients booked because they had asked three other people already and been told the job was too small to be worth a visit.
That used to annoy me more than it should have. A dripping tap is not a large problem, but it is a real one, and it is the kind of thing that makes a house feel like nobody is paying attention. HEART AND DAGGER SOUTHERN LTD was built on the opposite idea: every job deserves attention, and the size of the job has nothing to do with its worth.
The first workshop was a garage with a workbench, a pegboard of tools and a van that smelled permanently of coffee. The first three years, most of the work came from people telling other people. We still work that way.
What has changed is scale. We now work across the United States, with engineers, cleaning specialists, repair technicians, wood care finishers and plant people. What has not changed is the shape of the work: one crew, one written scope, one price, and somebody whose name you know.
The crew
Five of the people who lead the work at HEART AND DAGGER SOUTHERN LTD. They are not a stock photo; they are the ones writing the scopes, training the new technicians and answering the phone when it rings at midnight.
The mission
Our mission is short enough to remember: treat every house as though somebody who loves it lives there. That sounds soft for a company that fixes boilers, but it changes the work in very practical ways.
It is why the crew vacuums behind the sofa before they leave. It is why we photograph the damage before we start, so nobody can argue with what was there before. It is why we would rather lose a job than push a replacement on a system that still has years left. And it is why the price on the quote is the price on the invoice, even when the job turns out to be harder than the photographs suggested.
HEART AND DAGGER SOUTHERN LTD wants to be the company you call first and the company you keep. Sometimes we do not take the work — if your project needs a licensed general contractor, we will say so and give you a name.
